Get Involved

From driving to gardening to distributing Focus or helping out with Open Gardens, there are many ways you can be involved – all volunteers are welcome!

At the Cottage

At the Cottage

The Carillon Cottage front desk is staffed entirely by volunteers who bring a mix of knowledge and life experience with them. Typically, they are retired or semi-retired people who want to contribute to the community: “One of the things we can give is time. If someone comes in with a problem we’ll find an answer; there is a great sense of satisfaction in being able to help and to send people away feeling that somebody cares.”

Call us or apply here if you would like to know more.

Driving for us

Our volunteer drivers really do make a difference in people’s lives and enjoy many an interesting chat with their passengers. Currently we do 600+ local and distance drives every year with increasing requests for long distance.

If you would like to ‘give back’ to the local community by joining our team, ideally you will be generally fit and well and under 70 years of age, hold a full driving licence, drive a 4-door car and be willing to undertake a DBS assessment. Interested? Call or apply here for an information pack.

Distribute Focus

Distribute Focus

Our popular parish magazine Focus is distributed to some 1,100 people every month. We have a team of distributors who, on average, each distribute 25 magazines to their friends and neighbours and who, once a year, collect the subscriptions and bring them to the Cottage.

This is a very sociable task, it’s good exercise and you really do get to know the people on your round. So if you’re a walker and would like to help with getting Focus out into the community, speak to the Cottage or apply here.

Help in the Garden

At the back of Carillon Cottage is a fabulous walled garden overlooking the churchyard. It is kept in good order by a team of volunteers who meet on a regular basis to weed, plant and mow. The garden is important in the life of the Cottage, being used for summer parties and children’s entertainment.

Our gardening team would welcome you with open arms. Enthusiasm more important than knowledge. If you love gardening in a friendly team, this could be for you. Apply here or contact the Cottage for more details.

Help with Open Gardens

Help with Open Gardens

Open Gardens is our major annual fundraiser, without which the Cottage could not do the work it does.

The organisers are always keen to hear from people willing to open their gardens to the public or who will help with organising the event including the famous teas with wonderful home-made cakes. Click on Open Gardens to find out more.
